Parent Partnership

At Nelson we regard the partnership with parents and carers as a vital part of children’s learning. We welcome parents in to the classroom at the beginning of each day at8.50am to join in with an activity with their child before registration at 9am  . If, at any time, you have any concerns or questions about your child’s learning contact your child’s class teacher or the Headteacher. The beginning of the day is very busy but the class teacher will always arrange a mutually convenient time to meet with you after school.

Evenings when parents are invited to discuss their child’s progress with class teachers are held in the Autumn and Spring terms. The Headteacher is also available on these evenings to meet with parents should they wish. Written reports are sent home in the summer term.

Parents are welcome to come into school on a regular basis to work with children under the guidance and supervision of the class teacher. This helps to give children confidence in working with other adults and learn new skills in a small group. If you do volunteer to help in the classroom you are subject to a disclosure from DBS disclosure and vetting service. You will also need proof of your identity and address. All visitors and helpers in school are required to wear a school visitor badge for security and child protection.

Parents are invited to a range of events, concerts or assemblies during the year. We hope that you will be able to come and support your child and enjoy these events. For safeguarding we ask parents not to film these events unless specific permission has been granted from the school.

Please note that mobiles phones are not allowed to be turned on in school and must be stored away when on school premises.

A home school agreement has been drawn up in school and we hope that all parents/carers will feel able to sign this agreement and to support the school in its aims and values.
