There has been lots of exciting learning happening at Nelson this week. Here is an overview of some of the learning in each year group.
We have been writing recounts about our weekend activities.
We have been learning subtraction by putting animals on an island, and taking some off. We then found out how many were left. We were signing and talking the calculation.
We have been learning to add by finding two animals, counting the legs finding the numicon tile, and then counting the numicon tile holes to see how many legs altogether.
We have been looking for signs of spring: daffodils, crocuses, frogs, frog spawn….and climbing trees without having to wear a coat!
We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes this week. We have been ordering and grouping the shapes.
We have travelled to Holland, found out about windmills, tulips, canals. After a long night on the ferry, had ‘hagelslag’ (sprinkles on toast) for breakfast.
We have looked at work of Van Gogh, painted tulips and daffodils in the style of his sunflowers.
We have also played lots of games to practise solving problems involving subtraction.
We visited Strangers Hall on Friday to continue our learning about the Great Fire of London. We learnt about different materials and how to make sure that your house was safe from fire. We hunted for fire hazards around the hall, including the bedrooms! Finally, we spent heard from people who were living in London during the time of the fire.
