I passionately believe I have one of the best jobs in the world! As school staff, we are lucky enough to spend our days investigating and finding answers to amazing questions alongside your brilliant children.
As a teacher, I know that children are more than just the score they can achieve in a test but wonderful individuals who we work alongside to help guide them into a happy, healthy and safe future as honest kind and respectful individuals. These young people are our future and already have a strong voice which should be listened to!
I have been teaching for ages in both London and Norfolk.
Out of work I am a wife and mother of three. I have a degree in music, I absolutely love to travel (especially to hot locations serving delicious spicy food) and have a passion for gardening. I (think) I have a good sense of humour and I am an absolutely terrible dancer (although it pains me to admit it).
I am incredibly proud to be the head teacher of both Wensum Junior and Nelson Infant schools and I am committed to serve this community to the best of my ability.
I really love my job at Nelson and Wensum. I am immensely proud of our children and all the amazing staff who approach every day with enthusiasm. I am passionate about the Thrive Approach and recently became a Licensed Thrive Trainer.
Outside school, I am mum to Ella and Pearl, partner to Toby, daughter to Denise and Kev, a big sister to Rosa, granddaughter to Eddie, owner of Teddy the British Shorthair cat and more recently Franklin the American Staff puppy! I love dancing in the kitchen with my girls, working on macramé projects and hanging out with family and friends (when we’re allowed!). Being outside when it is warm makes me and my family really happy, we also love swimming in the river, bike rides and watching movies. I believe in being honest with children, and that time, relationship and connection are the most important elements of being a parent and teacher.
I am so lucky to work at Nelson, it is such a wonderful place to be- the children and staff are warm, fun and friendly. I am passionate about working with children and developing the whole child. I am involved in developing the fabulous curriculum at Nelson and am determined to make the children’s learning engaging and purposeful. I love my job. I recognise the importance of providing a safe, caring, supportive and effective environment that brings opportunities for each child to make those essential steps in life.
When not at work, I love spending time with my family. I have two children - Sergio and Maya and my husband. Our latest addition to our family is a crazy, bouncy golden retriever named River (luckily she loves the water!). As a family we love spending our time outside, whatever the weather, whether it’s climbing trees in the woods or paddling in the sea in winter. Swimming, reading and dancing are other pastimes I enjoy. As well as spending time with my family I do love to escape to my yoga hut in the back garden as much as I can. I strongly believe in creating secure, caring relationships with the children I work with and my own – the importance of listening and ‘being there’ is invaluable.
Hi! My name is Lara and I am the EYFS Lead at Nelson Infant School. I have been a teacher for 15 years (teaching classes from Y7-Reception) and, after joining the Reception team at my previous school 5 years ago, I quickly realised how fantastic teaching children in Early Years really is. Since then, I haven’t looked back! I am passionate about supporting children to become independent learners and instil a life-long love of learning.
I am a mum of 3 grown-up children and a Special Guardian to my wonderful niece. I also have two mischievous cats who always cause much delight at home. I love relaxing with a good book in front of the fire and going to music venues to watch live bands – the noisier the better!
Hello! My name is Catherine. I am one of the Year 1 teachers. I have been teaching for six years and have always been in Year 1. I am particularly interested in maths and mathematical learning in the Early Years. When not at school I enjoy long distance walking, knitting, growing vegetables, cooking and slow urban cycling. I live with my husband, three slightly wild children and a dog.
Hello, I’m Charlie. I’ve been an Early Years teacher for eleven years and I’m currently teaching in Year 1 at Nelson. Before qualifying as a teacher I worked as a teaching assistant in a first school and a room leader in a daycare nursery.
I enjoy helping children to become independent learners; encouraging them to seek out answers to things they are curious about. I’ve found children love to learn about animals, anything food related and gross things, so I always try to incorporate these into the planning!
Outside of school I enjoy taking a stroll in the woods or on the beach with my family. I have two young boys who love to explore nature and usually end up covered in mud!
Hi I’m Heather and I have been teaching for 13 years. Before starting my job at Nelson Infant school I taught at Wensum Junior School for 6 years. I am very lucky to have taught across both schools as they are such lovely places to be.
I am passionate about supporting children with their learning and the importance of providing a caring, safe and supportive learning environment. I love my job as each day brings something different where I get to explore, learn and have fun alongside the children.
Outside of school I am a mum to Jacob and partner to James. We have two dogs a Golden Retriever called Max and a Jack Russell cross Lhasa Apso called Holly. I love spending time with my family and anyone that knows me will tell you I am a huge Disney fan! I enjoy travelling (sometimes to see Mickey) and going on new adventures.
Hi, I’m Charlotte and I am a Year 1 teacher at Nelson Infant School. I have been teaching for nearly 10 years. I have a background in Early Years and KS1. I love teaching infants because I get to explore, learn and have fun alongside the children.
I have a creative background and I love reading (especially Harry Potter). I enjoy being in the great outdoors, walking and being around trees. I love sitting in coffee shops and chatting with friends.
Hello I am Tasha, I teach in EYFS at Nelson Infant School.
I have had various job roles throughout my life including writing for the local newspaper, working in a TV studio and I spent a few years as a Teaching Assistant in a local infant school.
I have now been teaching for eight years. I studied to become a teacher whilst bringing up my two daughters who are now 22 and 17 years old.
I LOVE my job and it is the best career move I have ever made. I have a passion for Early Years teaching and I love to spend time helping children to explore their ideas and encourage their creativity.
In my spare time I enjoy arts and crafts, walking, reading and spending time with my family and friends.
Hi - I’m Lou. I have been teaching at Nelson Infant School since April 2020. Prior to that, I spent five years teaching at Wensum Junior and some time as an English Advisor in our trust schools. I really enjoy working as part of the school community and I’m passionate about providing our children with the best learning curriculum. I have recently completed my training as a National Oracy Lead and I am always looking for ways to support our children with the skills they need to become confident communicators.
I moved back to Norfolk in 2015, having spent 13 years teaching in Northamptonshire – during that time, I taught all year groups in primary. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family - I love walking, cycling and swimming. Although, lots of my spare time is spent on the football side lines supporting my son!
Hello I'm Ratna, I've been teaching for 20 years with the last 5 years here at Nelson Infant School. I have experience working with all age groups, including early years and I am currently working in Alternative Provision. Outside of school I love exploring the outdoors, listening to world music and cooking. I am also a qualified yoga teacher, something I look forward to restarting when the vaccine is rolled out!
Hello my name is Becca and I absolutely love working with children because they show such great resilience and enthusiasm through their learning and I love being able to support them in their journey here at Nelson Infant. It is very rewarding to watch children explore, grow and develop a love of learning in different ways. I cannot wait to start this exciting adventure with you!
I'm Amanda and I'm a teaching assistant. I'm a wife and mother to 2 children who both attended Nelson Infant and Wensum Junior school. I am so lucky I get to work with the amazing children that come to our school and the team is equally awesome. In my spare time I taxi my children to their various afterschool activities but I enjoy spending time with my family, walking my beautiful dog, playing games, reading and attempting to get fit!.
PE / Games Coach
Hi, I’m Dan. I’ve been working at Wensum for 4 years & Nelson for a year, as the sports coach. I’ve been coaching sport in schools for 10 years and enjoy the different skills I get to teach and watch the children progress. I also coach for a local swimming team in the evenings. In my spare time I love watching sport – my favourite sports to watch are cricket, rugby and football (apart from Norwich City FC). I also enjoy going for walks with my dog and spending time with my family.
Hi! I'm Steph, and I thoroughly enjoy working here at Nelson Infant School. Here at Nelson, the environment is lovely and warm, and everyone is super friendly and welcoming. It's like one big family. I enjoy spending time with children, and supporting them in all aspects of their learning and seeing their enthusiasm and approach to learning is amazing. I love supporting children to develop into kind, and caring beings, and walk alongside them on their journey and forming positive relationships.
As a child, I too went to Nelson Infant. I have since taken many volunteering opportunities and completed an apprenticeship here with the amazing support of both the staff, and children.
Outside of school, I really enjoy reading a good book under a cosy duvet, baking, and scrapbooking. I also enjoy spending time with my 3 cats, specifically playing fetch with my ginger cat, who tends to cause a lot of trouble! I'm also a huge disney fan, which is a good conversation starter for many children! I look forward to working together on this adventure here at Nelson!
My name is Gemma and I am a teaching assistant in year 1. I am married with two children and have been a part of the Nelson family for a few years now. My own children attended both the infant school and junior school and had very good experiences at both. I enjoy socialising (when allowed), swimming, walking and reading in my spare time.
Hello, I'm Elena. I'm not very happy about writing about myself as it's not one of my skills!
I became a teaching assistant in 2015, joining Wensum Junior in 2016 and moving down to Nelson Infants in early 2020. I love working in these schools where the focus ensures the children are not only educated but are at the centre of everything we do. Everyday, I am awed by the way children's minds work and how deeply they think about things.
Beyond work, my main focus is on the people in my life. I am married and have a son who is due to start school this year - hopefully at Nelson. We love playing games and going for walks - though we have to compromise between going to the beach or the woods nearly every time. A year doesn't feel complete with doing some camping and travelling to visit friends and family who live elsewhere in the country. There are many things in life I still hope to learn to do well - at the moment I am attempting to get good at gardening, playing guitar, and being fitter.
My name is Emma and I began working as a Pupil Specific TA 10 years ago now after many years of working with children in early years settings. I began at Nelson Infant School as a TA in September 2016 where I have worked in year 1 and am currently based in year 2.
I love working with children! I really enjoy supporting their learning and helping to boost their confidence and self-esteem which I feel is paramount for children to feel safe, happy and able to learn. It is truly wonderful to see children get excited about their learning and see their motivation when they are doing well at something! At school I’m currently training to be a Thrive Practitioner to be able to deliver 1-1 sessions across the year group.
Having moved up from Cornwall 20 years ago, Norwich is very much my second home now. I have two teenage children aged 13 and 17 years. When I’m not working, I enjoy art, adult ballet and baking as well as lots of walks and visits to the beach whenever possible!
