Welcome to Nelson Infant School

Please browse our website to find out more about our school.

Nelson Infant School is a co-educational community school for children rising 5 – 7 years of age. The school is situated within a vibrant and diverse local community close to the city centre. We are fortunate to have a swimming pool and extensive grounds for outdoor learning and play.

The school has a dedicated team of staff who know their children and families well and who help to ensure the best possible outcomes for the children’s care, learning and development as they progress through school.

Our shared values are important and help to guide us in all our work:

Respect, Friendship, Courage, Excellence and Enjoyment

Nelson Infant School is committed to being a rights respecting school which supports and promotes the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. As such, we place the universal rights of the child at the centre of all our work.

At Nelson we believe that every child has:

  • The Right to be treated with respect
  • The Right to enjoy learning and to be the best that they can be
  • The Right to play
  • The Right to be listened to
  • The Right to be safe
  • The Right to join in with our school and community

These rights inform all key school policies and practices for Safeguarding and Child Protection, Behaviour, PSHE and Teaching and Learning.

Nelson Infant School achieved Level 1 accreditation for the UNICEF Rights Respecting School Award in December 2014.
